Laser Scanning

Laser scanning or terrestrial laser scanning (TLS): is useful for inventorying existing buildings and structures and for creating accurate 3D models in BIM processes.

 

Scanning is mainly used in two cases: when creating a BIM model from a point cloud and when creating a post-construction model (As-built).

I the construction sector we also use the term digital twin, in which a physical result (e.g. a built building) is equated with its digital equivalent (digital building model).
